Obama MLK Speech

Today Sen. Obama gave a speech on a day I remember so well.
It was early April in 1968. I would graduate from H.S. in June.

My eyes were already open. In 8th grade I went through both Birmingham..Bull Conner..hoses..dogs and kids on our TV.
..and of course the Kennedy assignation.
My first LP from my paper route was not the Beatles but Pete Seeger "Live at Carnage Hall"
That year was both "I have a dream" and the Kennedy assignation.
In 1965 I first saw Chavez through my best friend's family.
April 4th...in Denver did not bring the backlash felt in other cities. But..

here is a link to Obama's speech.

I ask that folks put aside yer stuff...
That Sen. Obama is at this time, the leading Democratic Candidate
for the POTUS...fill in the blanks.
Of course I recognize that Sen. Clinton represents the hopes and dreams of women. But remember...women started voting in the 1920's...and African-Americans were not allowed to really vote until the 1960's.

What is important...is that our Party..not theirs...
allow voters to choose...no matter the result.
A transformation of the MYTH..
Tap yer toes..light a candle tonight.

It's destiny for sure. I'm looking at a CNN video stream right now of Obama speaking at a rally in Grand Folks in ND.
My god....there is a literal millions of people in this rally and the atmosphere feels electric.

Watch it here now

We have been waiting 40 years for Barack Obama.

We are ready now.

If I had to make a prediction right now, I'd say Barack Obama is going to be the next president.

When has someone else told us that we (none / 0)

will have to work to achieve greatness.  That we will need to make this country better.  40 years seems about right with RFK.

Re: Obama MLK Speech (none / 0)

The most vital thing we can do is vote for the candidate who is the most transparent and whose campaign is not tied with corporate lobbyists.

A lot of folks do not follow politics except at election time and are completely unaware that lobby money has eroded our economy completely.

this is especially poignant in Pennsyvlania which is where workers rights were fought for over many decades in the late 1880's and up until FDR.  Nearly all of those protections are going out the window, because our jobs are being shipped to countries that don't have those rights, and are being violently repressed by mercenary armies, hired by corporations, when they try.

Here in the United States, unemployment is escalating.  Most of our industry is gone or going.  The few companies who remain loyal to their communities and provide worthwhile jobs have to compete with other "American" businesses who are hiring, in essence, slave labor, in places like China.

At the same time, quietly and behind the scenes, the Bush/Cheney K street folks have been busy repealing all of the legislation that was implemented to protect our economy.   Their motto:
Privatize the gain and socialize the cost.

These corporations like our American address: it has cache, and they can use it for PR, but they have little interest in the well-being of our citizens, as evidence of who gets bailed out when there are mistakes: Bear Stearns, after investors took out a fortune; they got paid all along while bilking American families.

They hire people like Mark Penn to manipulate public opinion by polling and give you whatever you want to hear, so you will vote for policies that are contrary to your best interests.

This has got to stop, and our Democracy is in voters hands this year.  The world is watching to see if we are going to vote for the lobbyists and corporate aggressors, or if we the people will take back our power.  This isn't about melatonin, or ovaries, but something larger: Democracy itself and it is the policy around lobby money and corporate inveiglement into our elections and politics that should scare the living ---- out of all of us.

All I ask is that those..committed to Sen. Clinton..listen and watch....
Sen. Obama is not your true enemy...
Sen. McCain is in fact our enemy.
